Pond’s Sun Portraits uses Rajasthan’s sun to spotlight skin damage

Set in Rajasthan’s Phalodi, Pond’s ‘Sun Portraits’ uses heat, time and UV imagery to visualise sun damage, turning everyday walls into a slowly fading message on skincare

In Phalodi, where the sun doesn’t just shine but beats down relentlessly, a new campaign by Pond’s seeks to reveal what often goes unnoticed.

Called Sun Portraits and developed by Ogilvy India, the campaign steps away from the usual advertising playbook. Rather than relying on polished visuals or celebrity faces, it uses walls, sunlight, and the passage of time as its medium.

Through UV-sensitive technology, large portraits of local women are displayed on the outer walls of their homes. Over time, the intense desert sun gradually fades these images, creating a powerful visual representation of the kind of skin damage caused by constant sun exposure.

It’s a striking narrative device. The notion that the sun affects skin just as it does walls—only in ways we don’t immediately see—comes across with subtlety and impact.
